The Edge Newsletter - Winter 2024

“Keep some room in your heart for the unimaginable.”

― Mary Oliver

There’s something wonderful about beginnings. Whether it’s a new opportunity, a new year, or even something as simple as a new notebook, a fresh start can open our mind to new possibilities and big dreams.

January is the month when we’re encouraged to make time for reflection and self-awareness. We’re invited to take action; we’re called to hope.

While I’m not one for resolutions, I love the practice of setting intentions, because I think it holds space for the unexpected. The unimaginable.

I spent the past year celebrating the 10th anniversary of Gain Your Edge Coaching. It’s a milestone for sure, and more importantly, it represents a decade of incredible adventures and experiences that far surpass anything I could have imagined when I opened my coaching practice back in 2013. I’ve loved reflecting on the lessons I’ve learned in these first ten years, and recognizing the people who supported and inspired me along the way. Thank you for celebrating with me.

I can’t wait to see what new possibilities the next ten years will bring!

In Case You Missed It - Word of the Year 2024

Each year, I choose a word to help guide, shape, and inspire me for the next 12 months, and beyond!

It’s an intentional practice I find very centering and rewarding, and it’s something I always look forward to sharing.

For 2024, CHOICE is my Word of the Year. Head to my website for my thoughts on the power of choice, and for a downloadable tool to help you choose your own WOTY!

Jane's 2024 Reading List

I often get asked for reading suggestions, so I thought I would share what's on my shelf! My goal for 2024 is to finish reading Brene Brown’s Atlas of the Heart. I've also received some very thoughtful gifts of books...so I've got my work cut out for me this year!

Below is a list of books I'm looking forward to digging into in the months ahead. I've also compiled a few of my favourites that I frequently recommend to clients and colleagues...and enjoy rereading, too! There's always more to learn.

TBR ('to be read') list:
  • Lead from the Heart by Mark C. Crowley

  • Be Different or be Dead by Roy Osing

  • Leading with Humanity by Tom Wellner

  • ReCulturing by Melissa Daimler

  • Team Habits by Charlie Gilkey

Jane's Favourites:
  • The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

  • The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni

  • The Success Principles by Jack Canfield

What's on your TBR list? I'd love to hear what you're reading, rereading, or looking forward to exploring in 2024!
