Spring/Summer 2022

"It's greener where you water it." - Danielle Harris
June is well underway and with it comes the promise of summer. I’m looking forward to long days, warm evenings, and making time to enjoy it all with the people I care about.
What are you looking forward to? It’s so nice to be able to once again look ahead with eager anticipation; such a relief to be able to make plans and see them happen, after years of uncertainty, cancellations and disappointments.
With summer nearly here, it feels like there are more ways for us to safely enjoy the things we’ve missed. More opportunities for fun, too!
And we could all stand to have a little fun, don’t you think?
Many of us have been in survival mode for a long time, so it might take a while for us to process that. A good first step is taking some time for self-reflection. From there, it’s all about acknowledging what you need to do to take care of yourself, and figuring out the most realistic plan for making it happen. It all comes back to the “awareness + action = achievement” formula, which is at the heart of my coaching philosophy. It’s one that has served me well throughout my life and career, and I find myself coming back to it again and again.
Whatever your plans are for the summer, I hope that the months ahead afford you an opportunity to check in with yourself, and take care of yourself.

In Case you Missed it: "Saying No isn't Selfish"

Speaking of self care ...
Earlier this year I shared some thoughts about a trendy topic. The article explores energy tracking, boundaries, and why saying no isn’t selfish: in fact, it’s the first step towards self-care! Check it out on my website, or on LinkedIn!
Where in the world is Jane?

For me, self-care is generally about being mindful, enjoying nourishing foods, spending quality time with family and friends and getting out in nature.
I am excited to share that lately, my self-care included lots of travel. I’ve had the pleasure of getting away on some adventures, including a trip to Portugal, including Porto, the Douro Valley and Lisbon with my boys, and then the Mayan Riviera in Mexico with my boyfriend. It was wonderful to share some new experiences, and create special memories together.
Thank you for your flexibility as we booked time around these vacations.

Gain YOUR Edge!

Over the past few months I've had the pleasure of sharing some amazing profiles for "Gain YOUR Edge Wednesday", an ongoing series that celebrates people who have truly gained their edge. From clients to colleagues, and changemakers from around the globe, I'm excited to continue to highlight the incredible work and ideas of people I respect and admire.
If you'd like to be profiled - or would like to highlight someone - please let me know!
Remembering David Nicodemio Tavares
January 23, 1947 - January 13, 2021

On June 6th, we celebrated the incredible life of David Tavares. It was a beautiful evening at Massey Hall in Toronto, with dignitaries from both Portugal and Canada, including the Honourable Hazel McCallion, as well as a live performance by Portuguese fado singer Carminho.
David was an extraordinary person: a visionary, an entrepreneur, a leader, a father, a grandfather, a friend, a mentor. Azorean by birth and Canadian by choice, he was passionate and proud of both countries. David continuously demonstrated kindness and generosity with a youthful, positive energy. Regardless of the many successes or the countless accomplishments (including most recently being inducted to the Canadian Portuguese Walk of Fame 2022), David remained incredibly humble, and was always the ultimate gentleman.
David inspired me to reconnect and embrace my Portuguese heritage. I will forever be grateful for David’s support and relentless encouragement. He believed in working hard and in giving back. As his son Mike shared, David often said “You can learn a lot more with your mouth shut and your ears open.” David listened and treated everyone with respect and dignity. Any time spent with David was a privilege. He had this gift of making you feel special. I thought he was pretty special.
Dave ~ There is a hole in the world where you left us. You will be forever missed.
Thank you to the Tavares family for including me at David's Celebration of Life. It was an honour to reconnect with the Connexall Family and to honour the man who had such a profound impact on so many of us.
