"Let it Be”

There’s a concept that keeping popping up in my coaching sessions lately: the difference between “let it go” and “let it be”.

For many people, the phrase “let it go” doesn't resonate. It feels dismissive (Just get over it! Let it go!), or like acceptance or approval of a situation or decision you don’t agree with.

On the other hand, when you “let it be,” you’re shifting the focus onto the things that are within your control.

You be you… and let them be them.

It’s all about perspective and where you choose to use your energy.

Let's play with this thought: the weather this time of year is often unpredictable… and ALWAYS outside of our control. However, that doesn’t mean we’re without agency.

We can still choose how we respond.

Do I stay indoors? Do I put on my rain gear and go for walk?

As I often say: You always have a choice. You may not LIKE your choices, but it’s still a choice. And – by the way – not making a choice IS a choice.

For me, this concept brings to mind both my 2025 word of the year, Be, and my 2024 word, Choice. I love noticing how my current and past words shape my thinking, and my coaching! So as we creep towards summer, I'm looking forward to slowing down and embracing more moments of simply being. Letting things unfold without needing to fix, force, or control them.

Sometimes the most powerful move is to simply pause, notice, and choose how to be.

PS: as we approach the halfway point of 2025, it's a fantastic time to reflect on your 2025 word, and see what you've noticed over the past six months. And if you haven't chosen a word... it's never too late!

Happy, Healthy Habits

Anyone else need a little more fun in their life right now? I know I do. Personally, I do my best work when I'm having fun, which is why I've learned the importance of integrating little moments of joy into my daily life... and why I recommend making a list of ‘happy, healthy habits’, and put it somewhere you’ll see it each day.

It’s a great reminder to take care of yourself, AND it lowers the barriers by placing the ‘how to’ list right in front of you.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

✨ Enjoy a quiet morning coffee or tea

✨ Pick up fresh flowers

✨ Read for 20 minutes

✨ Go for a walk

✨ Call a friend for a chat

✨ Have lunch with your partner

✨ Journal

✨ Look at photos

Your list can be made up things you already do regularly, or things you want to start doing more consistently.

By making sure you do at least of one the items on your list each day, you’re setting yourself up for success, and creating positive momentum. Because you can’t pour from an empty cup!

What’s on YOUR ‘happy, healthy habits’ list? And what are you going to choose to do today?

In Case You Missed It - New Article

With the Stanley Cup Finals underway, this seemed like the perfect time to reshare my latest article.

I loved reminiscing about my years as a hockey mom—early mornings, cold arenas, and unforgettable memories— and sharing a few lessons I learned along the way.

Memories from WorldConnex 2024

I recently received some wonderful pictures that I'm excited to share, from WorldConnex 2024 in Boca Raton this past fall. WorldConnex is always a great opportunity for learning... and for catching up with colleagues and old friends! It was a pleasure to facilitate the event, and to discover some of the creative ways the healthcare industry is changing, growing, and innovating.

How Do YOU Define Success?

For me, summer is a time to slow down, and make space for reflection. So, to wrap up this edition of The Edge, I'd like to leave you with a journal prompt to consider:

How do YOU define success?

Success looks different to everyone, and chasing someone else's vision of success is an exercise in frustration and exhaustion.

Understanding what success means to YOU is a great values exercise... so this summer, I invite you to spend some time reflecting on how you define success.

Looking for the next step? Once you've found your definition, start to notice how much of your time and energy is spent on tasks that bring you closer to that goal of being successful (on YOUR terms!)
