The Edge Newsletter - Winter 2021

Winter 2021

Welcome to 2021! It is the start of a brand new year. For many, this signifies a new beginning; an opportunity to create something different.

How did you begin your new year? I chose to take a walk down by the lake. It was cold, windy ... and beautiful.

I have never been one to set a New Year’s resolution. For me, there is too much pressure, that becomes an expectation, and THAT can lead to judgement ... yuck!

Instead, I set an intention, and I choose a word of the year to help support this intention. A word that will ground and inspire me. For 2021, my word is Breathe. This one word will remind me to slow down and take a breath.

On my New Year’s Day walk, I took a few moments to breathe. A moment to say thank you ... and goodbye to 2020! A moment to welcome 2021. I set my intention to breathe, to be more present and grateful in 2021.

What am I grateful for right now? I am grateful for my health, my family, my friends, and the fulfilling work that I am so privileged to do. I am also grateful for the many little things … an unexpected card or kind gesture, time with my boys, or the ‘walk ’n talks’ (via phone) with my friends. This all ties back to my word of the year for 2021 Breathe!

As you start your new year, I invite you to choose one word that will ground you and provide perspective in the moment. A word you can draw positive energy and inspiration from.

Wishing you a wonderful year filled with good health, lots of joy, peace, and prosperity.

What is Your 'Word of the Year'?

When I drop a pebble into still water, I am captivated by the expanding ripples it creates. It is a simple demonstration of how one small action can have an ongoing effect. This came to mind as I was choosing my word of the year for 2021.

What is Burning or Building Your Energy?

Gaining awareness on what activities are burning or building your energy is key to managing your energy.

As you gain awareness, you can make choices to remove, delegate or change the time of specific activities in your day. My goal is to end my day with more energy then when I started.

Hope you enjoy the following two activities that support my clients and I to better manage our energy through the day and week.

What is Burning Your Energy?

This guide helps you identify what is burning your energy, so you can confidently choose to eliminate, delegate or proactively schedule these activities to maintain your energy.

Step 1 - Using the Daily Energy Tracker, note which activities are burning or building your energy.

Step 2 - Ask yourself, 'Does this activity really need to be done?'

Step 3 - If no, remove the activity from your schedule. If yes, consider who is the best person to do it.

Step 4 - If it's you, plan a high energy activity before or after. It it's someone else, delegate the activity to them.

Step 5 - Evaluate your energy after implementing your choices. If needed, go back to Step 3.

What Builds Your Energy?

This exercise is designed to bring a little more joy into your life.

What are you currently doing that puts a smile on your face? What could you start doing that would bring you joy? It doesn’t need to be ‘big’ or 'expensive’.

Create a list for you to tap into when you need something to build your energy.

Some examples are:

  • Enjoying a quiet morning coffee

  • A lunch time walk outside

  • A conversation with a friend

  • Listening to music

  • Meditating or being mindful

  • Watching an inspirational or funny video

  • Writing or journaling

  • Exercising
